This story colorfully describes one very important principle in psychology.
The psychologist began seminar by holding up a 500 ruble bill.
There were about 200 people in the hall. And he asked, “Who wants to get this money?” Everyone raised their hands immediately.
“I’ll do something with this bill,” he continued, and then crumpled it up and asked again, “Who wants to have it now?” All hands were raised again.
Then he threw the bill onto the dirty floor and lightly moved it with his shoe. After he picked up the crumpled and dirty bill from the floor, he asked again. “Does anyone need it in this form?” And again everyone raised their hands.
You just saw clearly, said the psychologist, that, despite everything I did with the bill, it never lost its value, you still wanted to get it. This is still money in denominations of 500 rubles.
In life, it often happens that we are thrown out of the saddle, we are trampled on while we are lying on the floor. In such cases, we feel worthless. I want to tell you that no matter what happened or will happen, you will never lose your value.
Psychotherapy is one of the few places where the value of a client depends entirely on his “bruises,” “trampled on,” or “contaminated.”
Sessions take place in affirming a person’s unconditional value, which spread their wings and give a new perspective in life. A new look at yourself and new goals.
