Multitasking: 4 lifehacks to combat fatigue

mnogozadachnost

It’s no secret that the amount of information is increasing exponentially every year. We become distracted, memory declines and the ability to think creatively fades away.

It is important to understand that despite the fact that we can do several things at the same time, our brain is not “sharpened” for such multitasking. He can either accept information, or reflect on it, or deal with solving a specific problem.

When we flood our brains with many simultaneous tasks, it can create the illusion of us being productive - due to the fact that every small task completed stimulates the release of dopamine into the blood. We get hooked on this dopamine like a drug, thus trying to close as many cases as possible without thinking them through properly.

Some of the research suggests that not only does multitasking itself reduce IQ, but even though you know there are many tasks, you have not yet started them. Thinking about these undone tasks makes you unable to effectively complete current ones.

The more often you look away from the current task, the more difficult it is for you to concentrate on it again and return to productive work, you lose a lot of energy in the process.

Therefore, the secret to resting the brain is to concentrate on one task and switch to another task after completing the previous one.

What seems like a vacation for you - watching TV series or scrolling your Facebook feed - is a load for the brain. But a relief will be looking at or contemplating anything - the landscape outside the window, a table, a painting - then thoughts go into free swimming and the brain rests. Any monotonous actions also help the brain to rest - cleaning, walking, touching someone with your hands (a rosary, for example). Meditation differs from contemplation in that while concentrating on it, the wandering state of mind, which I wrote about above, is turned off and systems that train willpower and concentration are turned on.

Life hack 1:  If you are tired, there is no need to scroll through Facebook, this will not allow your brain to rest, it is better to just do nothing at all, contemplating or meditating, knowing that your brain is now resting.

The occurrence of fatigue is also influenced by the huge amount of unnecessary information that we consume, while we no longer have the strength to deal with the necessary information.

So before you waste your precious energy reading something, ask yourself a few filtering questions:

1.   Will this improve my life?

2.   Is this relevant?

3.   Will this solve my problems?

4.   Will this improve my mood?

5.   Will this motivate me?

If you cannot find a satisfactory answer to any of these questions, do not waste your energy on this information.

Life hack 2 If the information does not suit your goals and does not improve your life, cut it off, don’t waste time on it

How to effectively process information to achieve results? You've probably heard that to become a professional you need to spend 10,000 hours collecting new information on a topic. In general, this is true, but what if you spent this time, but did not become a professional?

The key point in this statement is NEW information.

Every new information trains your mind, where there is no overcoming there is no growth. This is true for both our muscles and our brains. If you spin the same record for 10 000 hours, there will be no point.

If the brain constantly lives on autopilot, walking along well-worn paths, then it is not able to generate creative solutions and degrades.

Life hack 3   Try to learn new skills, knowledge - try to study new information - this is the key to effective creative decisions and actions.

Fight clutter in your thinking and everyday life. Brain activity is related to how you are able to maintain order in your life.

Clutter in your home causes your attention to “cling” to what is in your field of vision and distracts you from important thoughts, reducing concentration and self-control. The same thing happens in social networks - the feed is filled with a lot of irritants, and you already forget why you came here and it’s unclear where the time went.

Life hack 4 Set specific tasks and don’t get distracted until you complete them, setting yourself a specific area of action. Start sorting out the mess systematically, without expecting it to “dissolve itself.”

If your fatigue is more related to unresolved psychological problems, then you also need to put things in order. Here’s another life hack - a bonus)) for this there are psychotherapist services online or in person in Kyiv. Look for your own psychotherapist with whom you will have good contact.
