Do I need a psychotherapist?

A psychotherapist helps overcome psychological difficulties, treats fears, helps build correct self-esteem, overcome trauma, and build healthy relationships.

The question is, do you need it or not? The answer is not obvious.

psyhelp 4If you think that everything is fine with you, then you do not need such help. And if there are any psychological problems (bad mood, insomnia), he can completely overcome them on his own.

If you are in a bad mood, you don’t necessarily need to immediately run to a psychotherapist. For this, psychological counseling is sufficient (I also provide such services). Counseling is necessary for situational assistance. It helps quickly, but the results are also not deep. About the same as a headache pill - it doesn’t solve problems with high blood pressure, but it will temporarily relieve headaches.

In order to unravel the tangle of problems, psychological consultations are often enough, unless the roots of these problems lie in childhood.  Sometimes even lifestyle changes - monitoring healthy sleep, nutrition, sports, interesting work - can significantly help relieve symptoms. Self-help, support from friends, family and reading books can also be a good help in such cases.

But if you have done all of the above, you are even more confused and are losing energy, but the situation does not change - then you need deeper, longer and more serious work.

You shouldn’t run to a psychotherapist for any reason, but you shouldn’t be afraid of psychotherapy either.

Just as dental treatment requires a specialist, self-medication can do more harm than good, so you need to be careful with book recommendations and advice from well-wishers.

psychotherapist7Don’t let a problem develop into a chronic form, which is much more difficult to treat.  “It won’t resolve on its own”

The main thing is to find a suitable specialist. A good therapist, like a good friend, is quite rare, but if you find the one who is right for you, it is a great success.

You can always turn to him and he will always have time for you, unlike a friend, since he works for money and will focus 100% on you all the time without expecting interest in his person (after all, this is his job, which you paid).

Such a psychotherapist can accompany you throughout your life as needed in particularly difficult and critical situations when you need to talk the situation over with a specialist.

But serious psychotherapy also implies serious dedication from you. Ask yourself the question “if I now have the time to meet once or twice a week and the resources to do this over the next few months?”  Perhaps, when problems are revealed, you will need to go through a difficult stage in psychotherapy, come to your senses after consultations (which sometimes happens) and will also require motivation and desire to cross the mountains to reach the valley.

If you want to do “scheduled repairs” of your soul, then you need to choose the right time for this and accumulate resources. Perhaps if you have travel coming up, the birth of a child, or a lot of work, you should hold off on therapy. Unless you can work online (I also have this format of work), this saves significant time and resources.

If you have development goals and you have resources now, but need support, then a coach will most likely help you more. A psychotherapist helps those who do not have them find resources and deal with the past.

Regardless of the format: consultation, psychotherapy or coaching, I will be happy to help. Sign up by clicking the button below and we will talk and find out which form of assistance is best suited for you. We can work remotely online or in person in Kyiv.

Take action and you will succeed!
