When the client does not know the cause of his problem, it is useful to use a simple and effective technique.
Of course, it is ideal for problems that can be solved in coaching or psychological counseling and is not so effective with personality problems that are not so clear-cut and require deeper research during psychotherapy (trauma, neuroses, etc.)
How does the technique work?
Let's look at this with a simple example:
Take the client’s statement:
“I don’t have enough time” Why?
“I can’t get things done quickly” Why?
“It’s important to me that I do everything right” Why?
“I worry about what people think of me” Why?
“I don’t have a very high opinion of myself and the approval of other people is important to me” - that is, it turned out that the reason for the lack of time is the client’s low self-esteem, which needs to be worked on.
It is very important to keep the focus solely on the client's responsibility and not consider the role of other people or factors in the problem.
This technique can be successfully used in everyday life for self-help.
